From Alfred State College,

Alfred State Associate Professor and Department Chair of the Business Department Mark Bloxsom and Lecturer in the Physical and Life Sciences Department Jennifer Ross were honored with the Student Advocate Award during the 40th annual Honors Convocation. Student Senate President Kaytlinn Cattrell presented the award that is given to college employees that have gone above and beyond to help students be successful at Alfred State College.

Students credit Bloxsom for going above and beyond, for being a tremendous help, and for making constant effort to keep students engaged.

One nominating student remarked, “Not only did he listen, but he also took action and helped me. That is part of the reason I have returned to Alfred State.”

Another student commented, “He is always responsive and makes an effort to be as understanding as possible. An all-around good dude.”

Nominators credit Ross for making lessons interactive and fun while educating students in what they need to know. She is described as understanding, compassionate, and professional.

One nominating student remarked, “She gears her lessons towards all different kinds of learning styles which I appreciate! Hands down, the best.”

Another student stated, “She is the reason I am still at Alfred State pursuing a future for myself.”

The pair was presented with a golden apple and a certificate to commemorate the award.
