Funds from the American Rescue Plan Act were used to purchase new 10-wheeler

From the City of Hornell,

The Department of Public Works (DPW) is excited to share the arrival of a new ten-wheeled dump truck. The truck was purchased using funds provided through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

“As with any department, employees need safe, reliable vehicles and equipment to adequately perform their work and deliver services. We have successfully utilized federal ARPA funds to acquire this dump truck along with several other additions to the DPW,” noted Mayor John Buckley.

The Common Council unanimously approved the budget transfer of $118,656.90 to utilize the ARPA funds during their February 2024 meeting.

DPW foreman Rob Guy discussed receiving the new equipment, “Our previous 10-wheeler is over 35 years old, and while it’s still operational, when equipment gets to be of that advanced age, there’s increased difficulty obtaining parts and providing repairs. Having a new piece of equipment improves reliability and stabilizes costs.”

With a capacity of approximately 18 tons, the new dump truck features upgraded technology, safety features, and a new condition, making it a significant improvement over its predecessor.

The arrival of the new dump truck is highly anticipated for a busy planned spring and summer season in the Department of Public Works.
