Bath, N.Y., State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C-Corning) today visited Bath-Haverling High School to pay tribute to the Girls Varsity Soccer Team that won the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Class B championship last fall.

O’Mara and Palmesano joined the athletes, coaches, and school administrators and staff for a ceremony to present an official Legislative Resolution they sponsored, which was approved by the state Senate and Assembly, honoring the team’s victory in the Class B Girls Soccer championship on November 12, 2023 at Cortland High School. The team defeated Babylon in the title game by a score of 1-0.

In a joint statement, O’Mara and Palmesano said, “Bath-Haverling High School has a proud history of athletic excellence, competition, and achievement. We appreciate this opportunity to congratulate and pay tribute to the Girls Varsity Soccer team and its first-ever state championship. It’s an opportunity to recognize and honor the dedication, excellence, hard work, and success of these remarkable student-athletes who help our school communities stand out. They represent inspiring stories and stand as a source of enormous pride to the entire Bath Central School District, as well as to their families and friends, the community at large, and our entire region.”

The O’Mara-Palmesano resolution recognizes Head Coach Braedyn Northrup, Assistant Coach Mike Clancy, JV Coach Adam Deats, JV Assistant Coach Kailey McLean, and team members Riley Beaty, Zoey Winfield, Emmalyn Lafler, Lola Coots, Katelynn Dubois, Leah Krelie, Triesta Sprague, Jenna Thorp, Madison Thorp, BreeAnn Walruth, Ainsley Beaty, Lydia Dickson, Braydyn Gerrity, Emma Luckenbach, Skylar Lyke, Abigail Rodbourn, Keegan Smith, Ella Yartym, Aleah Binkowski, Gracelyn Wheeler, Sierra Haight, Emma Scheider, Makayla Smith, Contessa Vanskiver, and Maliyah Buckle.

The resolution reads, in part, “Proudly donning the school’s colors of blue and white, family, friends, and the community at large loyally and enthusiastically supported the Rams throughout their journey as they ended their season with an impressive 21-1-0 overall record.”

Bath CSD Superintendent Kelly Houck said, “As Superintendent of the Bath Central School District, watching our girl’s soccer team capture the New York State Championship was not just a victory for the team, our school, and community, it’s a true example of the power of teamwork, perseverance, and unwavering determination. Their success on the field demonstrates the potential that lies within each and every one of our Bath CSD students and that with hard work anything is possible. Congratulations to our New York State Champions!”

Athletic Director Shawn Wheeler said, “This State Championship is a reflection of the incredible spirit and dedication of our Girl’s Varsity Soccer Team. We were so proud to have them represent our school and community on the field.”

Head Coach Braedyn Northrup said, “I have never been more proud of a group of athletes. The work these girls put in to achieve this didn’t start in August, it began for many of them at 4 or 5 years old. Many can only dream of winning a State Title, while this group showed the young student athletes watching them exactly what it takes to bring one home.”
