Seven Alfred State students will represent the college at the National SkillsUSA Championship in Atlanta, GA. The competition takes place June 24-28.
To qualify for the National Championships, these seven students won their competition at the 2024 SkillsUSA New York State Leadership and Skills Conference Postsecondary Championship held at Alfred State’s Wellsville campus.
Elijah Clement (Cazenovia, NY) won the automotive service competition, Jared George (Portville, NY) won the welding category, Matthew Giardini (Allegany, NY) won the carpentry competition, Thomas Hnat (Buffalo, NY) won the electrical construction wiring category, Tyler Hutcheson (Niagara Falls, NY) won the commercial roofing competition, Olivia Padula (New York City, NY) won the masonry category, and Landon Spoonhower (Berkshire, NY) won the automotive refinishing competition.
These students along with Alfred State faculty and staff will travel to Atlanta for the five-day event which features more than 6,500 students competing in 110 occupational and leadership skill areas.
Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Carrie Cokely is excited about the opportunity for ASC students to shine at Nationals. “These students have continued to work hard after winning their competition at the NYS Championships and I am extremely excited to see how they do at the National Championships. I am confident that they will represent Alfred State well.”
