Winning streak continues for Maple City ball club after besting the Rapids

The Hornell Steamers increased their winning streak to twelve games with a hard fought 8-5 victory over the Genesee Rapids on Tuesday night. Hornell now is 25-7-1 on the year and holds a five point lead over the Rapids for the top spot in the Western Division.
Genesee got on the board first with a pair of runs in the 3rd. Braedon Leathed hit a RBI single and when he executed a steal and stop, Dalton Cody scored.
Alex Dupuy (LSU Eunice) cut the lead in half with a RBI single in the 3rd.
Hornell took the lead for good with a big four-run 4th inning. Markus Brehm (Finger Lakes CC) and Nic Schwing (Holmes JC) scored on a fielding error by the Rapids. Dupuy made it hurt even more when he laced a two-run double one batter later.
In the 6th, the Rapids cut the lead to 5-4 when Caeden Schulte hit a line drive double to plate two.
Hornell took advantage of a pair of miscues in 6th and 7th to make it 7-4. Schwing scored on a throwing error in the 6th and Brody Langlotz (Gulf Coast CC) scored in the 7th.
In the 8th, Joshua Fuentes scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-5 but Langlotz added an insurance run with a solid RBI single in the bottom of the inning.
Langlotz led the Steamers with a 3 for 5 day. Dupuy was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI and Nichols was 2 for 5.
Eli Fuselier (Nunez CC) improved to 6-0 with 5.1 innings of work. He allowed four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four. Danik Reed (Nunez CC) allowed one run on two hits in two innings of relief while Cowan Alfonso (Louisiana Christian) earned the save with 1.2 innings of relief. He walked two and struck out a pair.
Hornell plays their final regular season road game tomorrow night at Horseheads. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.
