First Alfred Farmers Market Zucchini Race a Hit

Thirty-three contestants participated in the Zucchini 500 at the Market on Sunday.  Some came with their cars all made and others grabbed zucchini and put them together on site. The judges were garbed in chicken hats.  Chris Piaggi, Kirk Dyke, and Karen Annis were the judges. Yasha Lewis, 

There were 8 heats in the age 13 and younger category.  The race track had 3 lanes and was built by Ryan Heckman. Doogie Horner was the announcer for the event.   The first heat participants were Abram Lewis, Faye Powers, and Finn McCarty.  Faye won the heat with her car named Mr. Fuschia’s Mobile. The second heat participants were Raya Lewis, Yasha Lewis, and Kadence Tierny. Kadence won the heat with her car, Sparkles.  Sparkles also was the overall fastest and went the furthest. 

The third heat was won by Keira Tierney with her car, Mike Wazowski. Also participating were Leah Waters, and Carson Waters. The 4th heat participants were Kirby Horner, Dash Horner, and Camareith Weeks.  Camareith won the heat with her car, The C Team.  Participants in the 5th heat were Katharne Weeks, Nate Ziese, and Beckett Ziese.  Nate’s car, Star Zucchini, was the winner. The 6th heat participants were Theodore Nightingale, Sarah Warren, and Nathaniel Weeks. Theo was the youngest participant at 3 months old but had a little help from his parents. His Theo Mobile was the winner. 

The 7th heat was won by Hunter Geer’s car, Blue Sea Monster. He raced against Isabella Geer, and Liam Scalc.  The last heat was won by Henry Frechette’s car, The Porcupine.  He also won for the most creative.  Also participating in the heat was Kendrick Snyder, who won for the best crash. So there were 3 in the heat, Farmer Sasha from Living Acres raced his car called Squash.  

The next zucchini 500 was for those who were age 14 and older.  K.T. Rogers, Rona Powers, and Tom Tierney were racing in the first heat.  Tom’s car, Nancy, won the heat but Rona won for the craziest car.  

Participants Sarah Martin, Andrii Mdesev, and Kevin Dninu were in the second heat.  Kevin’s car, Zucchini Blaster, took the lead.  The last heat was won by Calvin Wisniewski, with The Fastest Zucchini in the West.  Also participating in the heat were Luca Reginio and Kevin Dninu.  

Participants received a chocolate chip cookie.   Everyone seemed to have a blast! Stay tuned for next year’s races! This is going to be an annual event!
