NYSP: No tail lights leads to huge heroin bust on I-81

Over one hundred bricks of illicit opioid recovered

From the NYS Police,

On August 25, 2024, shortly before 9:00 p.m., New York State Police at Homer (Interstate) initiated a traffic stop on I-81 north in Cortlandville after observing a vehicle that did not have its rear taillights illuminated.

The Trooper interviewed the two occupants, who provided conflicting information. After an investigation and a search of the vehicle, the Trooper located a large quantity of illicit drugs:

  • 110 bricks of heroin, with an aggregated weight of more than eight ounces
  • Two containers of cannabis wax
  • Approximately three ounces of cannabis

The Trooper also located drug paraphernalia.  

At approximately 9:02 p.m., Troopers arrested two men age 25 and age 22, both of Syracuse, NY. Both men were charged with: 

  • Class “A” felony of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the first degree
  • Class “B” felony of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the third degree
  • Misdemeanor of Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia in the second degree

Both processed and transported to the Cortland County Correctional Facility for Centralized Arraignment.
