Homeowners in Steuben and Allegany counties affected by the recent flooding from Tropical Storm Debby can now apply for emergency repair grants of up to $50,000. Governor Kathy Hochul announced the availability of these grants, which are designed to assist income-eligible homeowners in making vital repairs to ensure their residences remain safe and livable.
The grants are administered by the Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) agency and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis until October 7, 2024, or until the funding runs out. Eligible repairs covered by the grant include essential systems such as electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.
Local officials have highlighted the urgent need for this funding, estimating that approximately 200 families in the area may qualify for assistance.
