“We are deeply humbled by this gift”

I was blessed to be in the audience on 9/17/24 at the Golisano Institute for Business & Entrepreneurship as Tom Golisano announced his extraordinary gift of $360 million to be distributed to eighty-two organizations dedicated to health care, education, and services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in our region.

It was not just the enormity of the donation that moved everyone – but the raw emotion in Mr. Golisano’s voice as he shared his vision. He fought back tears as he spoke, revealing the depth of his personal connection to the causes he supports. In a time where the world feels divided and uncertain, Mr. Golisano incredible generosity offers a much-needed example of compassion, unity, and responsibility to one and other. His actions serve as a reminder that while not many of us can give on such a grand scale, each of us has the power to make a meaningful impact in the world. We do not need millions to spark change – simple acts of kindness, empathy, and compassion are what can truly transform our communities.

His generosity to the Arc Allegany Steuben will have a lasting impact on our organization and the people we serve. We are deeply humbled by his gift. Tom Golisano’s unwavering commitment to those must vulnerable does more that offer financial support – it uplifts our communities, inspires hope, and shows us all what it means to truly give back.
