FREE one day course open all 10 years and older, you must register

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office Navigation Division will host a FREE one-day New York State Boaters Safety Course on Saturday, November 9th, 2024. The class will be held from 8:00am to 5:00pm at the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, 7007 Rumsey Street, Ext., Bath, NY 14810. You must be at least 10 years old to attend and must pass a written test at the end of the session.
Starting in 2025, all persons will be required to pass an approved course in boater education in order to operate a motorboat in New York State. All operators of personal watercraft (jet skis/wave runners) must possess the boater safety certificate and be at least 14 years old. This course meets the New York State requirements for adult boating safety certification and personal watercraft operation.
Seating for the class is limited and preregistration is required. There is no charge for the course. New York State charges a fee of $10 for the boater’s certificate which does not expire. The fee is waived for students less than 18 years old.
