A ceremony at the Canisteo American Legion honors Gary and Mary Forshee

From the Canisteo American Legion

Marcia Dunlop and Ford Owlett with the quilt of valor foundation presented 2 quilts of Valor at the Canisteo American Legion to Veteran community members Gary and Mary Forshee. The Forshee’s are both Military Veterans and Gary is also a retired NY State Trooper.

A quilt of Valor is a handmade quilt that is presented to service members and Veterans touched by war. The quilt is wrapped around the Veteran to provide comfort and healing. Marcia and Ford met the Forshee’s when they requested to sponsor a Veteran that had been affected by the recent flooding in the Canisteo Valley this past August.

During the presentation Mary Forshee was wrapped in her quilt by Marcia and former Canisteo Legion commander Rachel Mullen. Gary Forshee was wrapped in his quilt by Marcia and NY State Trooper Nolan Brink from the Wayland New York State Police Barracks.

A Quilt of Valor represents “Thank you for your service and sacrifice in serving our Nation”.
