Four Red Raiders scored double-digits in Hornell’s 78-47 win over the Livonia Bulldogs in Friday night boys basketball action.  Hornell’s PJ Picco led all scorers with 23 points, followed by Demayne Dixon with 16 points, Austyn Gollnitz with 13 points, and Wyatt Evingham with 12 points.

Livonia’s Jack Henry led his team with 15 points while Owen Austin chipped in 11.  The Bulldogs fall to 0-3 on the season.

The Red Raiders came out strong and took an early 27-4 lead after the first quarter. Hornell held a solid the lead throughout the game.

“The kids played well tonight,” commented Hornell coach Kirk Scholes.  “It starts with our defense.  When we are locked in on that end it’s everything for us.  We forced turnovers and rebounded well, which got us into transition early.”

All Hornell players saw significant court time time. “The kids were extremely unselfish,” continued Scholes.  “Hopefully this game will be a spring board into next week.  We have a tough game with Rochester Prep on Tuesday.  We will learn more about ourselves in that one.  We need to continue to to get better on both ends of floor and get more and more cohesive.

“The starters set the tone tonight.  We had 4 guys in double figures which is a great sign that the ball is being shared.  I’m hoping that continues.  We talk a lot about reading the defense and making the right play.”

Hornell (2-1) travels to Rochester to take on Class A Rochester Prep on Tuesday.
