The Hornell YMCA is excited to introduce a new program: Adult Learn-to-Swim classes! These 45-minute classes will take place on Tuesdays at 10:30 AM and 5:30 PM. The cost for the six-week session is $50 for members of the Hornell YMCA and $65 for community participants.

“Our main goal is safety. We want people of all ages to be able to enjoy the pool,” said Aquatics Coordinator Christi Walter.

Instructors will focus on boosting participants’ confidence in the water by teaching basic floating techniques, breath control, submersion exercises, back and front glides, simple kicking motions, and an introduction to basic strokes.

Instructor Sam Siriani added, “We will work with each participant to help them overcome any fears of swimming through exposure and guided exploration.”

Lessons for children aged 6 months to 12 years will be held on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The cost for the six-week session is $45 for Hornell YMCA members and $60 for the community. The YMCA offers a variety of stages, from parent-child lessons to stroke development classes.

Registration for the Winter Session of swim lessons is now open! The session will begin the week of January 6 and finish the week of February 15, 2025.

We also offer private swim lessons, subject to instructor availability. Please note that the price of private swim lesson packages will increase on January 1, 2025, so be sure to purchase your package before the new year begins!

On January 29, 2025, we will host free family swim lessons for the community. There will be two instructor-led sessions at 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM. Pre-registration is required. This event will provide a general water safety class and include some basic water exploration activities.

Participants in the free family swim lessons will receive a discount of $5 off group swim lessons during the Spring 1 Session, running from February 24 to April 5, or $10 off private or semi-private packages of 5 or 10 if purchased before February 28.

At the YMCA, our goal is to help everyone in the community become a stronger swimmer!
