The Hornell Public Library is buzzing with excitement as Sidnie Srader, the new library programming assistant, brings her vibrant energy and passion to the community. With over a decade of experience, a deep love for literature, and innovative ideas for programming, Sidnie is poised to make a lasting impact on the library and its patrons.
Born and raised on Galveston Island, Texas, Sidnie grew up amidst the charm of southern hospitality and the blazing heat of Texas summers. Despite her roots, she always dreamed of winters filled with snow. “I’ve always loved snow,” Sidnie said with a smile. “Texas summers can easily hit 100 degrees or more, so moving to a place with real winters is a dream come true.” Her move to Hornell was also influenced by her desire to be closer to family, making the transition both a personal and professional milestone.

Sidnie’s journey to the library world began in an unexpected place—a daycare center in Texas, where she discovered her talent for creating engaging activities. She soon transitioned to her first library job at the Allen Shivers Library, where she organized senior programs and a book club. These initiatives fostered a sense of community among older adults and highlighted her knack for tailoring programs to meet diverse needs.
Her career took off when she spent seven transformative years in Dayton, Texas, as a library assistant. There, she expanded the library’s offerings, particularly its summer reading and story time programs. Under her guidance, the library became a hub of activity for children and families, solidifying her reputation as an advocate for lifelong learning.
“I’ve been a reader my whole life,” Sidnie shared. “My grandmother gave me a copy of Anne of Green Gables when I was seven years old, and it’s been my favorite book series ever since.”
Now firmly planted in Hornell, Sidnie’s enthusiasm for her new role is contagious. She has set her sights on expanding programming to better serve the diverse needs of the community. “I want to learn more about the people here and create programs that resonate with them,” Sidnie explained. “Getting more kids to the library, engaging with families, and showcasing all the incredible resources the library offers are top priorities for me.”
Her innovative spirit is already evident in the plans she’s crafting for upcoming summer reading programs. In 2025, the library will host a series of art-focused activities, while 2026 promises an exciting prehistoric adventure featuring dinosaurs. Sidnie’s personal interests often inspire her work. “Sharks and dinosaurs are my favorites,” she said. “Sharks are so misunderstood. They’re not just eating machines; they’re vital to the balance of marine ecosystems.”
In addition to her role at the library, Sidnie is on track to earn her Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Studies, which combines government, psychology, and English, in December 2025. This interdisciplinary background equips her with a unique perspective on education and community engagement. “I feel both privileged and honored to be part of the learning journey for people in the Hornell community,” she said.
Sidnie’s arrival couldn’t come at a better time for the Hornell Public Library. As the library continues to adapt to the evolving needs of the community, her expertise and creativity are already proving invaluable. From sparking a child’s imagination with a dinosaur-themed story time to connecting with families through art, Sidnie is helping to transform the library into a vibrant center of learning and exploration.
As the first snowflakes of the season begin to fall in Hornell, Sidnie is embracing the opportunity to make her mark. Her dedication, warmth, and innovative ideas are set to create a lasting legacy, reminding everyone that libraries are not just about books—they’re about building community and inspiring dreams.
