The January meeting of the Canisteo Village Board included a review of 2024 service usage during its 40 minute regular meeting. Trustee David Robinson reported 156 fire calls and 276 requests for ambulance service for the past year. In his summary of police and public safety activity for 2024, Trustee Jack Beers noted 2623 requests for police support, 451 traffic stops and 69 criminal arrests for the past year.

During a ten-minute public comment, far less confrontational than recent months, questions and comments from the near-20 residents in attendance continued to center around police matters. Mayor Recktenwald fielded questions on the current status of the investigation of Village Police Chief Kyle Amidon, currently on administrative leave pending the outcome of a New York State Police investigation. Those present also requested specifics on current police staffing and actual hours of work. The mayor commented that 120 hours per week has been the coverage total in the recent past and is currently being provided by four village officers. A request was made to the board to update the “Meet Our Officers” page of the village website to include the recent police hires.

Looking ahead, the board set February 13 for 2025 budget workshops and established village elections for Tuesday, March 18, 2025,  from noon to 9 PM at the Canisteo Town Hall, 6 Main Street.

The village board meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7 P.M at their offices on 8 Green Street.
