Sheriff Allard: Deputies Nybeck and Bush showed teamwork during de-escalation

Road Patrol – Outstanding Performance Commendation

From the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department,

Deputy Nybeck and Deputy Bush were commended by Sheriff Allard during a brief ceremony March 3, 2025 before the Steuben County Legislature’s Public Safety and Corrections Committee. On February 2nd Deputies Nybeck and Bush responded to a report of damaged property and an inmate threatening to harm themselves in the Steuben County Jail. Deputy Nybeck, having previously dealt with the inmate, responded and de-escalated the situation, convincing the inmate to surrender a piece of glass and comply with the directions of the Corrections Officers. It was reported to the Major by the on-duty Sergeant that “With the very junior staff I had working Deputies Nybeck and Bush’s assistance in ending a very volatile situation without incident and helping ensure the safety, security and well-being of the facility is greatly appreciated by me and my staff.”

“I commend Deputy Sheriff Nybeck and Deputy Sheriff Bush for their professionalism, leadership and service. “Not only did you display excellent communication and de-escalation skills in responding to a dynamic situation, but you also showed outstanding teamwork in responding to the jail to assist without being formally requested.” Allard stated in his commendation.
