New pocket park will add lots of fun to summer!!
From City Hall,
The City of Hornell is excited to announce a brand-new playground is now open and ready for action on Bennett Street. Located just outside the Little League Park, the new play space is fenced in and features multiple slides and swings in a mulched area—just in time for baseball season!
“We saw an opportunity to create a pocket playground for kids in that location,” said Mayor John Buckley. “Whether it’s siblings waiting on the sidelines, players between games, or youth in the neighborhood, this gives them a safe, fun place to play.”
This project was fully funded by the City of Hornell, with a total investment of around $30,000. Staff from the Department of Public Works handled the installation.
“Investing in our parks and promoting outdoor recreation is a continued priority for my administration,” Mayor Buckley added. “This is another great way we’re creating opportunities for kids to enjoy the outdoors, and it’s already getting great use!”
Alderwoman Christina Hancock, who represents the 2nd Ward, shared her enthusiasm about the new addition. “I’m excited for this playground! It’s a great addition for families and daycares in the area, offering a fun place for kids to play right in the neighborhood,” said Hancock. “We’re also planning to add a picnic table, which will be a great spot for lunch, crafts, or just taking a break while the kids play.”
As winter gives way to spring, the City of Hornell looks forward to a fun and active season of play at all of our beautiful parks.
