Lewis will be the new Bath NY Chief of Police

From the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office,

On Friday, May 2, 2025, we gathered at the SCSO to honor Investigator Don Lewis as he walked out of our building for the final time as an employee. After 27 years of exceptional service, Don has officially retired from our agency to begin his next chapter as Chief of Police for the Village of Bath Police Department.

Our team, along with members from agencies across the county, lined up in uniform at the PSB to send him off with the respect and gratitude he so deeply deserves. Don has been a cornerstone of this agency—our expert in phone data extraction, Assistant SWAT Commander, and a leader known across the county for his professionalism and dedication.

Over the years, he’s earned countless commendations, including being named Deputy Sheriff of the Year by the NY State Sheriff’s Association and receiving our agency’s Career Achievement Award.

Although Don and K9 Jack will continue to assist with arson investigations, his daily presence, wisdom, and friendship will be missed. We’re proud to see him step into his new role and incredibly grateful for all he’s done for our community.

👮‍♂️ Congratulations, Chief Lewis—and thank you for 27 outstanding years. 💙
