A partnership with the Hornell YMCA promises big summer fun!!

From City Hall,

Summer fun is right around the corner as the City of Hornell and the Hornell YMCA team up once again to open the pool at Veterans Memorial Park at James Street on June 29. This marks the fifth year of the successful partnership, which was approved by the Common Council at their March meeting.

“Partnering with the YMCA has been a win for everyone,” said Mayor John Buckley. “It’s community-friendly and continues to bring energy and engagement to the City pool. The YMCA’s ‘Free Swim’ day sponsorships have been a great way for residents and businesses to give back, and we appreciate the continued support.” The Mayor also encouraged families to take full advantage of the park, adding, “Between the splash pad, pool, and courts, Veterans Park is the place to be all summer long.”

Regional Executive Director of Tri-County YMCA New York, Natalie Donahue shared the excitement: “We’re thrilled to announce another year of partnership between the Hornell YMCA and the Veterans Memorial Park Pool! This collaboration allows us to continue offering fun, safe, and active summer experiences for our community. We’re incredibly grateful to the City of Hornell for the opportunity to work together again and we can’t wait to see everyone enjoying the water this season!”

The pool will be open daily from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. beginning June 29, with the season anticipated to run through the end of August. Admission is just $1 for City residents, $2 for non-residents, and free for YMCA members. Sponsoring a “Free Swim Day” costs $100, and those interested can contact the YMCA for details.

The City’s summer playground program kicks off June 30 and runs through August 22, offering games and activities Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m. Playground locations include Maple City Park, Veterans Memorial Park at James Street, Stephens Avenue, the Columbian School, and the Bryant Apartments.

Whether it’s a game of pickleball, shooting hoops, or practicing your serve on the tennis court, Veterans Park offers plenty of ways to stay active and enjoy the season. The courts were refreshed last year and are perfect for a little friendly competition or just some casual fun. We’re looking forward to a safe, fun, and active summer in the City of Hornell!
