From Cardamone for the 3rd Ward,
Hornell, NY — A life of public service, education, and community care defines Diedra Magnifico Cardamone, who is officially running for 3rd Ward Alderman in Hornell.
A graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy—one of the five federal military academies—located in Kings Point, NY, Cardamone holds a Bachelor of Science degree and was commissioned as a Third Officer in the U.S. Naval Reserve. She later earned a graduate degree in mathematics education from Harvard University and dedicated nearly two decades to teaching high school math and physics, as well as serving as a math and science curriculum supervisor for a district in Northern Virginia.
Today, Cardamone works as an Academic Success Coach and Mathematics Instructor at Alfred State College, where she continues to empower young minds through education. Her life’s work has centered on positive leadership and collaboration, always working as part of a team toward the common goal of helping people in a community-based setting.
Since relocating to Hornell in 2018, Cardamone has brought that same dedication to local service—volunteering to help residents access veterinary care for their pets, rehoming displaced animals, and donating hand-built outdoor cat shelters to local animal shelters and rescues for public distribution.
“I’m running for 3rd Ward Alderman because I believe it is my civic duty to assist the people in my community with the challenges they face,” Cardamone said. “I enjoy researching, analyzing data, and engaging in open discussions to determine best practices, while offering thoughtful leadership that prioritizes collaboration over conflict, and compassion over division. As a parent of children in the Hornell school system, I am connected to our community’s schools and committed to supporting their continued growth and success.”
Cardamone emphasizes the importance of respect in public discourse. “I’m not here to belittle people who don’t share my viewpoints. I believe politics should reflect one’s character—how we listen, how we lead, and how we serve.”
