Don’t miss Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Farm Trail Day

Hayrides, Pick your own apples and grapes, meet the farm animals

From CCE Steuben,

Bath, NY – On Saturday, October 11 Cornell Cooperative Extension of Steuben County (CCE Steuben) will host its fourth annual Farm Trail Day in partnership with Explore Steuben and 14 local farms and agribusinesses. Families and members of the public are invited to explore our local food sources at farms across Steuben County. There is an opportunity to win a free basket of local farm goods for those who make it to at least four Farm Trail Day stops.

Farms will have fall and agriculture themed activities and demonstrations. Examples of what guests can expect include pick-your-own apples and grapes, hayrides, a machinery scavenger hunt, cider, goat milk soap, and applesauce demonstrations, farm tours, crafts, and meet and greets with farm animals. “Each stop on the trail is unique and offers a peak into the broad and diverse agriculture we have in Steuben County” said CCE Steuben Communications Coordinator Jen Hill. Many locations will also be selling their locally made farm goods including seasonal produce, honey, eggs, baked goods, goat milk soap, homemade ice cream, and more!

There will be stickers given out at each stop. Guests are encouraged to collect the stickers on a farm passport which they can pick up at their first stop or print from CCE Steuben’s website. Those who collect four or more stickers throughout the day can turn in their passport at their final stop or mail it to CCE Steuben’s office by October 14 to be entered in a drawing to win a basket of local farm goods from the participating businesses. There will be two winners drawn, one adult and one child.

The businesses participating this year are:

  • Lismore Dairy in Arkport
  • Lain’s Cider Mill in Canisteo
  • Stewart’s Family Farm in Hornell
  • Larry Romance & Son, Inc. in Woodhull

Some farms will have admission fees and products for sale. More information about the activities and associated costs for each stop can be found on CCE Steuben’s website, https://putknowledgetowork.org.
