The Hornell Red Raiders remain unbeaten after three tough road games last week.  Currently seeded #2 in Class B with a record of 9-0-1, the Red Raiders pulled off two wins and a tie playing 3 games in a 5 day span.

After a 2-0 shutout win over the #3 seeded LeRoy/Cal-Mum Rivals and a 1-1 tie over Way-Co earlier in the week, the Red Raiders traveled to Livonia Saturday night.  After nearly 95 minutes of play in double overtime, senior standout Wyatt Evingham scored the lone goal on a penalty kick to give Hornell the 1-0 win.

With just under 6 minutes left in double overtime and the game sitting at 0-0, a Livonia handball set up a penalty kick opportunity for the Red Raiders.  Saturday’s overtime win came after Hornell tied the Wayland-Cohocton Golden Eagles 1-1 in a 100 minute double overtime game two nights prior.

Hornell seemed to control much of the play Saturday night with 26 shots on goal.  Bulldogs goalkeeper, Kaiden O’Connor had a great game with 5 saves on the night.

The Bulldogs put Hornell goalkeeper to the test with several breakaway opportunities.  Senior, Alfie Whiteley notched the shutout win for Hornell after several fantastic saves.  Whiteley has let up just one goal this season.

Hornell coach Jim Tobin reflected on his team’s performance last week.  “We are very happy to escape with a 1-0 win over Livonia on Saturday.  Wyatt’s game winning penalty kick was the difference.  The boys ended the week on a high note.  We had a tough tie with Way-Co on Thursday night.”

Tobin continued, “Earlier in the week, we were able to take down LeRoy/Cal-Mum 2-0.  After the negative press that came out after that game, our boys finished the week with the true class that they always show.  We are looking forward to Monday’s game against Dansville.”

Hornell’s Wyatt Evingham leads the Raiders with 15 goals on the season.

The Red Raiders host the Dansville Mustangs tonight (Monday) and the Haverling Rams on Friday at Maple City Park.
