HORNELLSVILLE, N.Y. – A Steuben County grand jury has returned a 12-count indictment against a 31-year-old Arkport woman in connection with a June crash that injured three New York State Department of Transportation employees working along State Route 36.

According to the Steuben County District Attorney’s Office, Brooke A. Hayden is accused of driving through a clearly marked work zone in the Town of Hornellsville on June 11 and striking three NYSDOT workers who were performing roadway repairs. Prosecutors allege Hayden was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.

The indictment includes three counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, one count of aggravated vehicular assault, two counts of second-degree vehicular assault, one count of tampering with physical evidence, and one count of reckless driving. The charges range from misdemeanors to violent felonies.

The injured workers were transported to a hospital following the crash and were released the next day, according to earlier reports.

Hayden is currently incarcerated in a New York State correctional facility on a parole violation stemming from an unrelated case. Officials say she is expected to be arraigned on the indictment at a later date. An update to the case also includes a statement provided on December 11 by Hayden’s attorney, which has been entered into the court record.
