The 13th brand-new home, located at 179 Madison Avenue, was constructed through the successful partnership between the City of Hornell and GST BOCES has been completed and is currently out for bid. The addition of this home highlights the City’s continued efforts to increase the availability of quality, single-family housing.

This ranch-style, two-bedroom home offers approximately 1,200 square feet of living space and includes an attached one-car garage. Sitting on a fully insulated basement with walk-out access to the back yard, the basement provides additional usable space while remaining highly efficient. Assistant Public Works Superintendent Ashley Brown, who designed the home, explained, “This home features two full bathrooms, including a curbless shower in the master bathroom and a full tub and shower in the second bathroom. Washer and dryer hook-ups are conveniently located on the main living floor, and the home is also equipped with modern conveniences such as on-demand hot water, a forced-air furnace for heating and cooling, as well as new appliances.”

Bids for the home will start at $165,000, with bid sheets available through the City Clerk’s Office. The bid period is currently open and will close on February 26, 2026, when all bids will be read aloud at 2:00pm. Showings can be requested and additional information provided by calling the Public Works Office at 607-324-7421 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Mayor John Buckley highlighted the continued success of the partnership with GST BOCES, stating, “With the ongoing need for new, single-family homes in Hornell, this partnership continues to be a strong investment in our community. It provides Building Trades students, led by Rob Lemay, with valuable hands-on experience while delivering well-built homes with modern features. I’d like to thank Assistant Public Works Superintendent Ashley Brown for her design work, the DPW staff for their support, and Rob Lemay and the students for their hard work in bringing this project to completion.”

The partnership remains active, with construction currently underway on the next home on Canisteo Street.
