Hornell – 61, Livonia – 41

The Hornell Red Raiders improve to 9-2 and continue as the #1 seed in Class B with their 61-41 over the Livonia Bulldogs Monday night at Alfred University.

“I’m super proud of the guys tonight,” Hornell coach, Kirk Scholes said of his team.  “Our energy was fantastic, and we rebounded the ball with authority.  They have been grinding, and I’ve been on them about being tougher, more physical, and playing with an attitude.  Tonight was a focused effort on the little things.   Offensively, we shared the ball well and got the ball into gaps.”

Hornell was led by sophomore Ben Woolever who scored 25 points and had 6 rebounds.  “Ben played terrific, and I think he’s just scratching the surface,” commented Scholes.  “He used the midrange a few times tonight.  He’s a three level scorer.  He can hurt you in so many ways and he keeps getting better and better!!”

Congratulation Seniors! Go Red Raiders!

Senior Marco Picco had a double-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 assists.  “Marco played a very good game,” continued Scholes.  “He missed some shots that I know he wants back early, but he persevered.  I loved the way he rebounded tonight.  He is so capable and we are going to need him to be a double double guy!!

“Defensively, I really like what Tyrone [Buchanan] and Andrew [Flint] gave us.  Tyrone’s ball pressure and hustle was huge and Andrew gave us huge minutes off the bench guarding the big.”  Buchanan added 10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, & 3 steals, while Flint grabbed 3 rebounds.

Senior Nick Gray, recently back from injury, had 8 rebounds & 5 assists.  “I thought Nick Gray did a great job finding the guy on the baseline a few times,” said Scholes.

The Bulldogs were led by Oliver Taylor who scored 13 points and Jack Henry who scored 11 points.  Taylor & Henry each had 3 threes.

The Red Raiders will host  the #2 seed, LeRoy on Wednesday at Arkport Central School.
