Reaction to the politics of the day from a “Conserva-Liberalist”
A OPINION by Chuck Wiser, Scio NY
Some of you may recognize me from my weekly writings. This is not that, nor is it a normal “topic” as I try very hard to keep my writings apolitical. I know…I’ve probably slipped a couple of times but only ever in the context that, while it was political, it was generic or neutral, and not biased or left/right leaning.
Recent political activities, and especially those of our elected president are very concerning to me, and frighten me to the core if they gather steam and bulldoze their way into the hearts and mines of those whom are already politically biased, or are enamored as to the mistruths and misinformed Republicans blinded by their myopic foresight.
Our current president was fortuitously left with a group of Supreme Court justices, measurably of his choosing, and/or who are now hell bent on overwriting, or overruling much of our constitution, at least by their politically motivated actions.
Many, if not all, of the cases that work their way up to them are very contentious. Roe vs Wade, at least by its name even though the details of which may escape anyone below the age of 50, is one of the most notable. The items that reach their bench are contentious in general and are all laden with political, if not sociological, undertones. That’s OK. That’s normal for human beings to politically lean toward or away from “Conservative,” or “Liberalism.” Myself? I confess to being a “Conserva-Liberalist” having been raised, or brought up, neither migrating toward one or the other. My first leanings were toward the Republicans, as my mother was registered as such and my earliest political recollections were from the “I Like Ike” campaigns and television coverage. I was in the US Navy when John Kennedy was assassinated and the through the other Kennedy family disasters and the more I learned about JFK (not even yet out of my “teens”) I leaned a little more toward Democratic (Capital “D”) and “Liberal” thinking.
I guess my love for learning, writing and sharing is a little more “Liberal” leaning.
The following paragraph was written long before, what I am going to end this with. Having recorded my thoughts and feelings in more than a few words might prompt a “Writers Wrights” philosophy that; “Why only write, or limit yourself, to 10 words when you can embellish the truth with more than 1000. My whole focus and political belief is expressed in the words that follow…
“I applaud the Supreme Court for their present, and most recent rulings, regarding our Presidents recent attempts to make us richer rulers of the world by adding illegal tariffs, which was and is a charge left for Congress.
The Supreme Court title isn’t accidental. It IS SUPREME in our Political, Social, Constitutional democratic rights, privileges and obligations.
It is not “above the law”, it is THE law, in everything mentioned above.
No ONE person, whether a janitor, street sweeper or even the President of the United States is above the law, or immune from adherence to and compliance with, the laws and/or our Constitution.
There are legal and constitutional rights, and they are, either by initial democratic approval, consensus, constitutional inclusion or amendment, rulers over all of us, unless or until modified as laid out in the aforementioned documents or institutions.
I have said my piece. In my heart and mind, it needed to be said, and its point has already often been preached and/or made known but now is a good time to remind some people of these things.”
