Sad News: Wellsville icon James Raptis has passed away at age 95

Raptis, pictured with wife Demi, was a true “pillar” of Wellsville NY, a former Allegany County Chairman, and owner of the famous Texas Hot

The Raptis family announced the passing earlier this morning:

Jimmy, Dad, Theo Jim, or “Pappou” to family – he passed on February 22, at Olean General Hospital.

95+ years lived. 69 years married. 66 years a father. 33 years a grandparent. He was deeply loved and will be deeply missed. May his memory be Eternal.

 Friends may call Thursday, February 26, 2026 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Olney-Foust & Embser Funeral Homes & Cremation, 34 West State Street, Wellsville, NY.  Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday in Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Maple Avenue, Wellsville.  Rev. Fr. Stephen W. Gousios, Pastor of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, will officiate.  Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellsville.  Memorials may be made to Wellsville Lions Club, Comfort House of Allegany County, or St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Jamestown. Online condolences may be expressed at www.wellsvillefuneralhome.com.
