Mahany breaks Canisteo-Greenwood 3-point record as basketball team had 48-0 halftime lead!

On the same day Hornell Sun Senior Sports Writer Bill Collmer featured the 3-point shooting of Canisteo-Greenwood 8th-grader Kara Mahany, she broke the single game 3-point record!

Mahany scored 16 points and four 3-pointers to break the school single-season record with 69 3-pointers.

This was NOT a football game between the two gridiron rivals, but Canisteo-Greenwood took a 48-0 halftime lead to beat Alexander, 69-19 in the Section V Class C1 matchup. The No. 4 seed C-G team (19-2) had a lead as big as 56-3 with the third quarter winding down.

No. 13 Alexander ends the season at 9-12 as Ava Yax had 10 points.

C-G will now host No. 5 Gananda on Saturday. Gananda (14-7) beat Byron-Bergen, 50-38 as Leah Buffan had 25 points.

In other games, Genesee Valley-Belfast improved to 9-11 with a 55-41 sectional playoff win over Romulus.

And the Andover-Whitesville girls, the No. 7 seed in a tough Class D bracket, beat Honeoye, 75-43 to improve to 12-9 on the season.
