After starting the season with a convincing win, the Hornell Red Raiders trailed Avon, 7-0 early on Tuesday night.
Hornell (2-0) then scored 28 straight points as coach Mike Wilkinson’s team went on to win, 28-7.
It was a mix of veterans, an 8th-grader and an exchange student who combined to lift Hornell to victory.

Avon took the lead as Liv Short threw a touchdown to Megan Kinney, then Short ran in the extra point conversion.
Hornell junior quarterback Raegan Evingham continued her domination with a six-yard TD pass to Alexa Smith. Smith then made an incredible diving catch to tie the game at 7-7.
Hornell senior Selena Maldonado then caught a 5-yard touchdown from Evingham and Brynna Wilkinson had the extra point.
Senior Adela Kaletova, an exchange student, scored a touchdown when she caught an 11-yard pass from Eviningham. Senior Mia Nasca had the extra point for a 21-7 lead.
The game was sealed when Evingham was being pressured, then threw a pass into what appeared to be open space between three Avon defenders. Suddenly, 8th-grader came from out of nowhere and dove, catching th touchdown pass sliding into the endzone. Maldonado ran in the conversion.
Sylvia Carretto led Hornell’s defense with seven flag pulls and one sack and a passĀ breakup while Selena Maldonado had seven flag pullsĀ and an interception and Brynna Wilkinson had two sacks.
