April 6 thru 12 will spotlight those who work for our “longer, healthier lives”
Steuben County, NY —
Steuben County Public Health will join communities across the country in celebrating National Public Health Week (NPHW) this April (April 6th – April 12th). The annual observance highlights the important role public health plays in protecting and improving the health of communities every day.
National Public Health Week is organized by the American Public Health Association and is observed each year during the first full week of April. The week recognizes the contributions of public health professionals and raises awareness about the policies, programs and partnerships that help people live longer, healthier lives.
Throughout the week, Steuben County Public Health will share educational information and staff stories to highlight the many ways public health protects local residents—from disease prevention and health education to environmental health and emergency preparedness.
“Public health often works behind the scenes, but its impact is felt every day,” said Matthew Marmor, Interim Director of Steuben County Public Health. “From family health and lead exposure prevention to vaccination programs and disease prevention, our team works to ensure that every resident in Steuben County has the opportunity to live a healthy life. National Public Health Week is a chance to recognize the dedicated professionals who make that possible and to remind our community that prevention and collaboration are key to building a healthier future.”
Public health efforts have played a major role in improving life expectancy and quality of life in the United States, through initiatives such as vaccination programs, clean water systems, safer food practices and emergency preparedness planning.
Residents are encouraged to follow Steuben County Public Health on social media during National Public Health Week to learn more about their local public health department and how individuals can support healthier communities.
