Hallock, Perry have Wellsville softball off to a sizzling start going for 6th straight Section V title

Wellsville is getting a combination of great pitching and hitting during a 6-2 start to the season. Wellsville is behind Mynderse (7-0) in the Section V Class Bs softball standings with Marion/Gananda (7-2) , LeRoy and Sodus giving chase.

The Lions have played a tough schedule under coach Gia George, winning big games in South Carolina and turning in some incredible performances during losses in the prestigious GrandSlam Tournament in Ballston Spa.

On Wednesday night, Wellsville downed Canisteo-Greenwood, 14-1 as Kennedy Perry threw a no-hitter with 15 strikeouts and no walks. She picked up her 100th career strikeout in the game with catch Hannah Bennett behind the plate.

Senior Teagan Burke, who just signed to continue her academic and athlete college career at Buffalo State University went 3-for-4 with a double.

Perry was perfect with the no-hitter in the circle and at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a triple and two doubles.

Perfect Peyton Cawley went 3-for-3 with as well for Wellsville while Bennett was 2-for-3 with two doubles, , 1 triple, 2 doubles and Addison Palmatier had two hits.

Also for the Lions, Brynn Hallock, Hailey Cowburn and Alexa Dunbar were strong at the plate, as each player had 2 RBI’s.

For Canisteo-Greenwood, Harper Burd went three innings and Gracen Mahany closed, throwing two innings and striking out two.

Brynn Hallock, who recently signed to continue her academic and softball career at Hilbert College, recently showed she is ready for the next level of competition. In a 7-6 loss to Gallway in the tournament, Hallock went nine innings and struck out 19 batters, giving up just four hits.

She earned her 100th career strikeout that game.

The Lions are also getting great hitting this season out of Ayla Faulkner and Tayler Palmatier who had multiple hits in the Ballston Spa tournaments.

Lydia Brockway, Amaya Outman and Felicity Thomas have also been offensive and defensive contributors to the good start to the season.

Wellsville hopes to avoid the rain and play Cuba-Rushford on Saturday at noon, then hosts Arkport-Canaseraga on Monday at 5 p.m. and then a big doubleheader with Bath in Wellsville on May 5.
