Mitchell D. “Duane” CHAPMAN, 86, of Wellsville, NY, died Thursday, June 4, 2026, in Highland Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Wellsville.
Born July 9, 1939, in Allentown, he was the son of Mitchell E. and Elnora D. Stevens Chapman. On May 29, 1987, in Fort Pierce, FL, he married Peggy O. Phillips, who survives.
A 1957 graduate of Allentown Union School, he was employed as a grader operator by Red Clay Construction in Charolette, NC. Duane was also a farmer all his life.
He loved to watch NASCAR, Buffalo Bills, and old westerns.
Surviving besides his wife, Peggy, are: five daughters, Janice (James) Lewis of Scio, Michelle Sloat of Bolivar, Sherry Best of Bolivar, Elanor (Johnny) Latil of Louisiana, and Donna Mills of California; three sons, William Latil of New Jersey, Robert Allen Chapman of Pennsylvania, and Phillip Mac Barnes; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sons, Mitchell D. Chapman and Robert Barnes; two daughters, Diana Bennett and Sheila Ryan; two sisters, Gwen Cox and Etta A. Chapman; and two brothers, Leonard “Sonny” Chapman and Dennis “Ferg” Chapman.
Private family viewing will be held at Olney-Foust & Embser Funeral Homes & Cremation, 34 West State Street, Wellsville, NY.
