UFO Regatta: The Cure for an Ordinary Summer

Coming July 25 to Foster Lake in Alfred- FREE Entry, FREE FUN

By MARZENA LEWANDOWSKI

Are you or someone you know experiencing symptoms of an ordinary summer? A noticeable decline in enthusiasm? Children announcing they’re bored? Adults with recurring episodes of wanting to do something exciting but never getting around to it? Is your garage filled with perfectly good junk you’ve been saving for “the right project”?

Ask your friends if the UFO Regatta is right for you. Developed by Alfred 21st Century Group, the UFO Regatta is a once-a-year treatment recommended for anyone showing signs of acute deficiency of fun. Community-tested to relieve ordinary summer symptoms one floating object at a time. Most participants report a sudden urge to build something magnificent within minutes of signing up, followed by increased creativity.

How does it work? Simply combine friends, relatives, neighbors, students, coworkers, or random stranger with an idea for an Unidentified Flotation Object (or a UFO) and a handful of unused items – such as barrels, pallets, bottles, pool noodles, or PVC pipes. Name your creation something memorable and launch it on Saturday, July 25, at Foster Lake in Alfred, NY. Buoyancy is encouraged. Results may vary.

The UFO Regatta is not for people who insist everything must go according to plan. Do not participate if you have a known hypersensitivity to contagious laughter. Common side effects may include a sudden fascination with discarded materials and an inflated sense of confidence in your engineering abilities. If these symptoms persist for more than four hours, continue building. Participants may also experience an irresistible urge to begin planning their next year’s entry. Consult your teammates immediately. There is currently no known cure. In rare cases, your UFO may develop an intimate relationship with the bottom of the lake. This is considered a normal part of the treatment and is frequently accompanied by applause.

Please build responsibly. Homemade watercraft should be operated with life jackets (provided by the organizers) and a healthy dose of humor. For complete event details, construction guidelines, and official race rules, visit the Alfred 21st Century Group Facebook page or scan the QR code below.
