Livingston County Sheriff: Today we highlight Captain Swanson!

Swanson is a Mount Morris native and has served for over 16 years

Captain Swanson began his career with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office in February 2010, serving in the Police Services Bureau after graduating from the Rural Police Training Academy (RPTA). Before being promoted to Captain, he worked his way up through the ranks from Deputy to Sergeant. Throughout his career, Captain Swanson has served in a variety of assignments and specialty units, including STOP-DWI, SWAT, Crisis Negotiations, and the Honor Guard. He also proudly served as a K-9 handler alongside his partner, Gibbs, for 7 years. In addition, he is a General Topics Instructor, Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) Instructor, and previously served as a Field Training Deputy.

Captain Swanson graduated from Mount Morris Central School in 2002. He went on to attend Finger Lakes Community College, where he studied Criminal Justice.

When reflecting on his career, Captain Swanson says he has most enjoyed the wide variety of assignments, specialty teams, training opportunities, and leadership roles the Sheriff’s Office has provided. Above all, he considers it an honor to have worked alongside so many outstanding men and women throughout his career.
