Don’t forget Rathbone Old Home Day is Saturday August 8th

It is currently seventy-eight degrees, and partly cloudy here in Cameron Mills, NY, along the banks of the Canisteo River this morning at 11:15 am.
I begin this week with a brightly colored, female, red-winged, black bird with her heavy dark-brown streaking, yellow eyebrow strip, and a prominent orange shoulder patch. The soft evening light brings out the beauty of this bird. Also a glorious sunset from last night, in all of its beauty, and chairs to sit on to enjoy the relaxing view, with a whitetail momma standing by watching over her two fawns.
Then a female Baltimore oriole enjoying an orange, along with another sunset reflection in the river, and a sweet, little fawn looking to see where her mother had scampered off to, once she realized I was nearby.
Then a couple of sparrows battling for the bird seed, and a male rose-breasted grosbeak, a couple of sparrows, and a Baltimore oriole all checking out the grape jelly at the same feeder.
August has brought us some cooler evenings, but still enjoyably warmer days. Tomorrow, Saturday August 8th, brings us our local Rathbone Old Home Day Event. Come on out and join us here in our beautiful Steuben County countryside. You may want to see the canoe and kayak races, from the Cameron Mills boat launch five miles down to the Rathbone boat launch.
I hear Nevada Caparulo may be bringing some horse riders down to see the boats start off, too. Also, many vendors, racers, will be here, and the Cameron & Addison Fire Departments will be selling the Chicken BBQ dinners for a fundraiser, too. It will be a fun day if you’d like to come out and join us.
