A citizen and Trooper Christopher Cady acted fast and saved a life

On October 4, 2026, at approximately 2:37 p.m., Trooper Christopher Cady responded to Cross Lake Marina in the town of Cato, Cayuga County, for a report of a vehicle sinking at the boat launch with a man trapped inside.
Trooper Cady immediately entered the water and used a window punch to break the vehicle’s sunroof. With the help of a nearby good Samaritan, he was able to free the man from the sinking vehicle.
The quick actions of Trooper Cady and the citizen who stopped to help prevented what could have been a tragic outcome.
