Coach Mehr’s motto: “Pride, Discipline, Accountability”

From staff reports,

Hornell Varsity Football head coach Ismail “Izzy” Mehr got a shout out this morning from the Buffalo Bills for his superb coaching and mentoring of young men.

Mehr has been named the Coach of the Week, an honor that comes from the Bills organization which recognizes great coaching at the high school level throughout Western NY.

In typical fashion, Mehr gave credit to his mentors and players.

Coach Mehr played football for coaching legend Gene Mastin, and coached with Mastin before taking over as head coach of the Red Raiders.

Reaction from Mehr after being named Coach of the Week,

“As everything else we do everything is about the team individual recognitions be them player of the week or in this case recognition of a coach they’re all great and nice moments, but they are a collective effort as a team. One person gets recognized, but that recognition is not of the individual it’s of the efforts behind the scenes with a tremendous coaching staff of alumni who understand what Hornell football is about in these last few years we’ve had some ups many downs, but these coaches continued to work day and night understanding the traditions, history and values that were instilled in us by our amazing coaches. We’re excited that the community is excited it was an honor to be recognized by the Buffalo Bills. It was a collective win last Friday and a collective award.

We’re already moving forward. This week is Bath. Looking forward to having an amazing home crowd once again as we always say “it’s Bath week.”
