Four families welcome new additions, celebrate National Adoption Day
Several families in Steuben County became “more than they were before” Friday (Nov. 18) with seven children officially joining four families on National Adoption Day.
So far this year a total of nineteen children have found new families, with six more children expected to be adopted by the end of 2022, according to the county Department of Social Services
“Celebrating National Adoption Day during the holiday season highlights the blessings of gratitude, love and family,” DSS Commissioner Kathryn Muller. “It is a day we recognize all parents who have opened their hearts and their home to provide a forever family to our children in need. These parents have chosen their families and in turn we are forever grateful. It is one day of the year we collectively celebrate the true joys of our work.
“Many thanks also go out to all the DSS Services staff, judges, court personnel and attorneys who work collaboratively to make this happen.”
The day marked the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic the county Department of Social Services hosted a group celebration — an annual highlight of the department’s year.
