Five-year-old injured in Steuben County school bus accident; driver cited.
A five-year-old child is in stable condition after a three-vehicle accident involving a school bus in Steuben County on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 4:00 PM on State Route 417 in the town of Erwin. According to New York State Police, a 2018 Dodge driven by Leanna Byler of Addison failed to stop for a stopped Addison school bus in the westbound lane. Byler’s vehicle struck the rear of a 2015 Toyota, which was also stopped for the bus. The impact caused the Toyota to veer into the side of the school bus.
The driver of the school bus, Gregory Creely of Cameron Mills, and all six juvenile passengers were uninjured. However, a five-year-old child in the Toyota driven by Joseph Powers of Cameron Mills was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester by LifeNet.
Byler was not injured in the accident and was issued a traffic ticket by State Police. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
