Mayor Buckley: The park has never looked better!!
From the City of Hornell,
The Department of Public Works recently completed upgrades to Veterans Memorial Park, including the addition of a new pavilion near the tennis and pickleball courts, as well as converting the concession stand into an equipment storage shed.
Mayor John Buckley highlighted the increased attendance at the parks this summer, driven by recent upgrades, including updates to the pool house, the addition of a splash pad, and improvements to the tennis, pickleball, and basketball courts. “The park has never looked better, and we’ve already seen increased attendance, especially at the pickleball courts. We felt a new pavilion in this area would be very beneficial. The pavilion provides a much-needed place for players to rest and recharge out of the sun when they aren’t playing a match.”

The concession stand, which had seen limited use in recent years, has been repurposed to better meet the park’s needs. “The structure required significant work, and its use as a concession stand had declined,” Mayor Buckley explained. “By converting it to a storage shed, we’ve ensured the building remains functional and supports the park’s maintenance needs. The shed now houses equipment used for the upkeep of the park, which helps us maintain the park in top condition. With mobile food trucks becoming more common, this seemed to be the most logical choice.”
Mayor Buckley emphasized that these upgrades are part of a larger investment in Hornell’s parks. “We have seen significant investment over the past year in the parks, and the shed and pavilion are the latest in that effort. We have gorgeous parks, and it’s vital to ensure they remain well-maintained for everyone.”
These recent updates highlight the City’s ongoing dedication to providing high-quality recreational spaces for residents and visitors alike.
