Great programming for kids, young adults, and grown-ups!!

The Hornell Public Library has a wide variety of programs for all ages being offered throughout the month of February. This includes, ongoing community events as well as Teen Programming, Storytime, STEAM Projects, and even a hide and find! 

Announcements

Storytime with the Hornell Principals: The Hornell Public Library in partnership with the Hornell City School District invites students to a special Storytime with the Principals! Join us here at the library every Monday from 4:30-5:00 PM to read with one of the school principals. This event will be ongoing through April. 

Library Advocacy Month: February is Library Lovers Month! Throughout the month visit the library to sign a library advocacy postcard to send to our state legislators letting them know how important our library is to our community. Each person that signs a postcard will receive a free “I Love My Library” pin! If you can’t make it into the library there is a digital postcard you can find and fill out on the Hornell Public Library Facebook page.  

Winter Break: The school district will be on Winter Break on February 17th – 21st. The library offers many excellent materials that can be utilized for a fun and entertaining “stay-cation”. Check out our books, DVD’s, board games, and card games, or pop in for one of our activities being held throughout the week.  

Library Closings: The library will be closed Monday, February 17th in observance of President’s Day. 

Featured Programs

Lego and Duplo Club – February 18th from 4:00-5:00 PM. This club is open to children of all ages. Each meeting we’ll have a different prompt for participants to work from to create incredible Lego and Duplo masterpieces! 

Blind Date/Play Date with a Book: Pop into the library throughout the month of February to participate in Blind Date or Play Date with a Book. Choose one of our wrapped mystery books to check out and take home for a fun “date”. Each book comes with a few goodies for the participants. There are books available for all ages.  

Programs for Kids

Story Times – Wednesdays at 10 AM. Come join us each Wednesday in February as we read fun books and participate in craft time after. This month will feature Valentine’s Day, Our unique differences, and stories about friends that like and don’t like hugs! 

STEAM Saturday – Saturday, February 15th at 11 AM Come visit the library to create your own egg shaker instruments. This program will utilize recycled egg cartons and filling materials to determine the different sounds each filling makes.  

Programs for Teens & Adults

Adult Book Club: Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus – February 11th at 6 PM Join us on Tuesday, February 11th for a lively discussion on Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus—a story brimming with wit, resilience, and a dash of chemistry! Let’s dive into Elizabeth Zott’s groundbreaking journey as she challenges societal norms, inspires change, and shakes up the 1960s!  Call us today to reserve your copy! 

Teen Programming: Team Building Competition Games – Wednesday, February 19th from 3:00-4:00 PM. You ready to put your problem-solving, listening, communication, and delegation skills to the test? What position will you play? The Leader? Motivator? Or the Coordinator?  

Bring all your friends for this Teambuilding Competition with several games meant to put your team to work! 

Tech Help – By Appointment. Need help with your phone or tablet? Looking for tips on how to stay safe online or use the library’s digital resources? Then call the library today to set up a one-on-one Tech Help appointment with one of their staff members to get all of your questions answered. 

Recurring Programs

Crochet for Beginners – Mondays, 5:00-7:00 PM (Don’t have your own hooks? Borrow a crochet kit from the library’s Tool Lending Shed!) 

Chess Lessons – Thursdays, 6:00-7:00 PM 

Open Chess – Thursdays, 7:00-9:00 PM 

Coming in March: 

Homebound Book Delivery – Can’t visit the library? We’ll bring the books to you with our Homebound Book Program!  

Call us before the first weekend of the month to sign up for our Homebound Book program and have books delivered to you on the last Tuesday of every month-607-324-1210. 

Multilingual Storytime – Season 4 begins on Thursday, March 6th and will run through April. Join us every Thursday at 4:00 PM for a story time featuring a different culture and language.  

The Hornell Public Library is located at 64 Genesee Street, Hornell, NY. The library’s open hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 12:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Wednesday 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM, Friday 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM, and Saturday 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
