Hornell, NY—Although the presidential election has only been over for a few months, it is time for the local election process to begin. Democrats running for county legislator, mayor, and aldermen are passing “designating petitions” to appear on their party’s primary ballot. Each candidate must collect a set number of signatures, which varies depending on the office and district. Completed petitions are due to the Steuben County Board of Elections between March 31 and April 3.

“We are working hard to recruit candidates for every race,” said John Bradley, chair of the Hornell Democratic Committee. “We are gratified that so many ordinary citizens have stepped forward to serve their community.”

“All ten alderman seats on the city council are up for election,” continued Bradley. The City of Hornell has ten wards, and an alderman represents each ward. “We have drafted candidates in most wards but are still looking to fill a couple more.”

“I invite registered Democrats interested in running for city council to reach out to me immediately so that you have time to gather signatures before the deadline,” concluded Bradley. “I’ll happily provide you with a petition packet. The Hornell Democratic Committee is ready to support you throughout the election cycle.”
