The Hornell Public Library has a wide variety of programs for all ages being offered throughout April, including ongoing community events, Teen Programming, Storytime, STEAM Projects, and even a hide and find!
Announcements
Story Time in partnership with the Family Resource Center – Wednesdays at 10:30 AM Storytime is changing it up with a new time and a new partnership! The library and the Family Resource Center have come together to provide a new Storytime adventure! April 2nd, 9th, and 16th we’ll be meeting at the Family Resource Center at 10:30 AM for singing, reading, and crafts. Then on April 23rd and 30th we will be meeting at the library at 10:30 AM for the same activities.
Cultural Explorations with the Hornell Public Library – Sand Mandala Workshop with Katie Jo Sudaby – Saturday April 26th at the Community Art Center at 12:00 PM*
What is a Sand Mandala, and why are they created? Sign up today to explore the rich history and cultural significance of this ancient art form, particularly within Middle Eastern traditions. Learn how these intricate designs are not just beautiful but deeply symbolic.
On Saturday, April 26th at 12 pm, join Katie Jo for a hands-on experience where she will guide you through the process of creating your own personalized sand mandala. Using colored sands and special tools, you’ll express your creativity and connect with a meaningful tradition.

Thinking Money – Children’s Financial Literacy Games – Tuesday’s April 8th and 22nd and Friday April 18th at 3:00 PM
Financial literacy sets the foundation for kids to make smart and healthy money habits that will last a lifetime. Upcoming events at the library will prepare young people in the community with the skills needed to gain confidence in handling finances through pet adoption, a year on the farm, and more.
Financial Literacy Month will be full of interactive games and hands-on activities designed to help kids understand the value of money in an engaging and educational way. Plus, kids can check out a tablet loaded with entertaining financial games from the Thinking Money for Kids program—an initiative of the American Library Association (ALA) and the FINRA Investor Education Foundation.

Spring Recess is coming up for the students at Hornell City Schools and the library will be celebrating with programming all week long!
Monday, April 14th at 1:00 PM – Pop in and make your own Trail Mix for a snack!
Tuesday, April 15th at 1:00 PM – Pop in to enjoy our board game selection!
Wednesday, April 16th at 1:00 PM – Pop in to enjoy a Freestyle Art program!
Thursday, April 17th at 1:00 PM – Pop in for a STEAM project and make SLIME!
Friday, April 18th at 3:00 PM – Pop in for a game of Making Moolah with Eba!
Saturday, April 19th from 11 AM -1 PM – Pop in to make Seed Bombs for Earth Day!
Programs for Kids
Storytime with the Hornell Principals: The Hornell Public Library in partnership with the Hornell City School District invites students to a special Storytime with the Principals! Join us here at the library every Monday from 4:30-5:00 PM to read with one of the school principals. This program ends in April, so don’t miss out on the last few sessions!
April Hide and Find: There will be a scavenger hunt in the children’s area during the month of April. Pop in any time the library is open to hunt for a silly spider asking you to guess his favorite song! This activity is open to patrons of all ages.
Lego and Duplo Club – April 1st, 15th, and 29th from 4:00-5:00 PM: This club is open to children of all ages. At each meeting we’ll have a different prompt for participants to work from to create incredible Lego and Duplo masterpieces!
Multilingual Storytime – April 3rd and 10th – Thursdays at 4:00 PM: This story time is open to all patrons who are interested in learning about different languages and cultures! Each week a volunteer will read a book in both English and a language they have brought to share with us. After each reading, we will have a game or a craft.
STEAM Saturday – April 12th and 19th from 11 AM – 1 PM Pop by the library the April 12th and 19th to participate in a STEAM project or challenge. On April 12th we’ll be learning about Citizen Science and their “One Million Acts of Science” initiative happening throughout April, and on April 19th we will be making seed bombs in honor of Earth Day. This program is open to children of all ages.
Circus Club – April 16th and 30th – Wednesdays at 3:00 PM: Get ready for fun at our Circus Club! Join us for exciting circus activities on Wednesdays, April 16th and the 30th at 3 pm!
Whether you’re twirling with hula hoops, dancing with ribbons, or mastering the art of juggling, there’s something for everyone.
All materials provided – including hula hoops, dancing ribbons, and poi balls. So bring your best circus spirit and get ready to show off your skills!

Teen Programming: Among Us Interactive Game – Wednesday, April 23rd from 3:00-4:00 PM.
Hornell Public Library is excited to bring back Among Us in Real Life for round two! Following the success of our first event, this updated program promises even more fun and challenges. Participants will take on new tasks, unlock special abilities, and work together (or sabotage!) to figure out who the imposter is. Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to join the crew, solve puzzles, and experience the thrill of Among Us in person on April 23rd at 3pm!
Teen Programming: Video Game Fridays – Every Friday in April from 3:00-4:00 PM.
Teens, get ready for Video Game Fridays at the library! Every Friday from 3-4 p.m., join us for a fun, interactive gaming session featuring themed games of the week. Whether you’re racing through Mario Kart, building Legos, exploring Minecraft, or testing your skills in a cooking challenge, there’s something for everyone. Play on our Nintendo Switch or dive into virtual reality with our VR headset. Bring your friends and level up your Fridays at the library!

The Journey to Loving Your Brain in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association – Monday’s May 5th, 12th, and 19th at 4 PM:
The Journey to Loving Your Brain is a 3-part program for kids and their grown-ups that highlights how crucial it is to care for your brain. It includes engaging stories and fun activities that explore healthy living for both your brain and body, the significance of mindfulness, and the changes our brains go through as we grow older.
