From the City of Hornell,
The Board of Public Safety unanimously approved the appointments of Dale McMichael Jr. and Jordan Emo as firefighters during its August meeting.
Dale McMichael Jr. is an experienced firefighter with more than 25 years of service in multiple departments. He has previously served with the Alfred Station and South Hornell volunteer fire departments, and is currently active with the Almond and North Hornell departments, holding leadership roles as ambulance captain and first assistant fire chief, respectively. McMichael also holds an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification and has experience responding to Emergency Medical Services (EMS) calls through his prior affiliations. “Dale has demonstrated a strong and consistent commitment to public safety through years of service with multiple departments,” said Fire Chief Frank Brzozowski. “He brings hands-on experience and a solid understanding of the demands of the job.”
Jordan Emo is a recent graduate of Avoca Central School. He has gained experience as a volunteer firefighter with the Howard Volunteer Fire Department and currently holds his EMT certification. Emo brings a solid work history across several hands-on roles and multiple trades, including working on his family’s farm, assisting with property maintenance, and completing solar panel system installations. “Jordan is motivated, dependable, and brings a strong work ethic to the department,” noted Chief Brzozowski. “He’s eager to learn and has already shown the kind of commitment we look for in new recruits.”
The appointments are effective immediately. Both McMichael and Emo have passed the Civil Service exam and meet the qualifications to begin work with the department. They are also enrolled in the next fire academy, scheduled to begin in February 2026.
