Alfred State Western Equestrian impresses in 2025-26 opener

The Alfred State Western Equestrian team opened the 2025-26 season with impressive performances at West Virginia University. The team was the Reserve high-point team during competition on both Saturday and Sunday.

Ashley Wolfe rode to high-point rider on Sunday. She was first in Open Reigning and second in Open Horsemanship. This followed a first-place finish in Open Reign and a fourth-place finish in Open Horsemanship on Saturday.

Chelsea Pouthier (Rookie) and Alison Wojtkowiak (Rookie) rode to first place finishes on Saturday while Hadly Amyot (Beginner), Adilcia Thomas (Rookie), and Wojtkowiak (Rookie) finished first in their division on Sunday.

Amyot and Maddie Cassanova qualified for the IHSA Regionals with their performances. Amyot added a second-place finish in Beginner on Saturday to her top finish on Sunday while Cassanova was second in Rookie on Saturday and second in Level 1 on Sunday.

Paige Sims was second in Level 2 Ranch on Saturday, Jacklynn Crow was second in Rookie on Sunday, Molli Spoor was second in Level 2 Horsemanship on Sunday, and Morgan Stone was second in Rookie A on Sunday.

Western Equestrian Head Coach Rose Stayer-Ruffner was extremely pleased with the opening weekend of the season. “We saw impressive riding from the entire team. I’m proud of the commitment to caring for the horses and the positive energy the team displayed and maintained throughout the weekend.”

The Western Equestrian team will be back in action on November 8 at Storm Harbor Equestrian Center (Slippery Rock, PA).
