Veteran’s Day is a time to honor all who served and for local woman Alisa Troccia, it’s an opportunity to give back.
It’s the second year Troccia and her team at Green Compass have organized the Adopt-A-Veteran Program where they assemble and drop off Wellness-themed gift bags focused on local veterans at the Bath VA.
Several groups are blessed throughout the year like teachers, nurses and cancer patients with wellness-themed gift bags.
The group coordinates several of these community givebacks throughout the year, blessing groups like teachers, nurses, and cancer patients with wellness-themed gift bags. This giveback is focused on our local veterans at the Bath VA.
“The inspiration really came from the spirit of gratitude during the Thanksgiving season and from my friend Lori Bly, who is a veteran herself, and suggested we focus on blessing veterans last year.” Troccia shares.
With the help of a $25 donation, bags are filled with wellness items including natural products, self-care essentials and small treats to brighten their day as an act of appreciation for their service.
Each bag will bear a handwritten tag that has the donor’s name and any personal message they want to give to the veteran receiving the gift.
Last year, 67 veterans were blessed and Troccia says they’re trying to match that number for this year’s goal.
“Anyone who would like to donate can send $25 via Venmo to @Alisa-Troccia (with a note that says “Veteran”) and include their name and message if they’d like.”
Alisa says she’ll wrap up all the assembling, packaging, and delivery next week.
Though the donation deadline has passed for this year’s Bless the Veterans giveaway, Troccia and Green Compass will continue to bless more people like teachers, nurses, and cancer patients with wellness-themed gift bags and welcome the support of the community in making this possible.
“I personally assemble and deliver the bags myself,” Troccia says. “And while delivery day logistics usually depend on facility guidelines, I always welcome help from team members or community volunteers when possible!”
