Dear Diary,

Today, I watched five High School Basketball games in eight hours I feel I watched some of the best high school basketball players not only in our area but in all of New York State. (Collmer’s column on Floyd Farley HERE and a look at the showcase HERE)

Corning Sophomore Nolyn Proudfoot proved that he’s an elite basketball player, he’s one of the most talented sophomores I’ve ever watched play. He scored 29 points in less than three quarters of play. He was named player of the game.

Canisteo-Greenwood’s eighth grader Kara Mahaney made an impression on me last season as a fearless seventh grader when she knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers on fast breaks at a game in Avoca.

Now, a year older, she’s a confident shooter who can bury it from anywhere on the court and today was no different.

Mahaney knocked down four 3’s and scored 17 points.

Coming into the season she had scored 286 points; in three games this season she has 66 points and has knocked down 15 3-pointers. For her career Mahaney now has 352 career points.

She was named Player of the game.

Carson Chaffee

Canisteo-Greenwood Senior Carson Chaffee showed that he is the best player in Steuben County and can make a case for one of the best in Section V Class B.

Chaffee put on a show in front of a packed house at Wayland-Cohocton High School. Scoring from anywhere on the court, including a dunk in transition.

He finished with 33 points and grabbed 12 rebounds he was named as Player of the game.

Honeoye Junior Landon Washburn had one of the best seasons a kid could ask for last year, taking his team to the State Championship game in Binghampton. However, they fell short.

Washburn is back and the 6-foot-7 guard put Section V on notice.

Washburn scored 21 of his game-high 34 points in the first half while also hauling in 14 rebounds and dishing out seven assists to lead Honeoye.

Washburn was the best player on the court and proved it. He put down four dunks, was dominant on both ends of the floor and is a must-see player for any basketball fan.

He was named Player of the game.

I would love to see him square off with Nolyn Proudfoot from Corning.

Basketball makes my world go round and I can’t wait for the next game.

Good Night Diary,

Bill
