APH team finished 10th as a sectional team

PERRY – The combined Avoca-Prattsburgh/Hammondsport (APH) varsity Wrestling team finished 10th overall Saturday February 7th in Class B3 Sectionals held at Perry high school.

Junior Chase Mummey captured a Sectional championship at 144 LBS. Mummey is the first Sectional Champion at APH since Justin Wise in 2024.
Teammate Gus Oliver finished 6th at 144 LBS. Junior Devin Stamets finished 3rd at 157 LBS. Sophomore Arin Dyjak finished 4th at 157 LBS.
Mummey defeated Colby Burns from Caledonia-Mumford at the 3:21 mark in the Championship match.

Mummey has had a fantastic Junior year for APH, he won the 144 LBS Championship at the Steve Garland Memorial Wrestling tournament in Pavilion. He won the 144 LBS championship at the 18th Annual Arkport-Canaseraga Holiday Wrestling Tournament. He finished second at 144 LBS at the Walt Peterson Memorial Wrestling tournament in Avoca. He also finished second at 150 LBS at the 57th Annual Franklinville Invitational Wrestling tournament.

Mummey who attends Avoca Central School. Joins a long list of Sectional Champions from Avoca. Including his Coach John Stamets who won Sectionals in 1995 at 138 LBS. Stamets wrestled for Hall of Fame Coach Walt Peterson at Avoca. Peterson had two undefeated teams in 1980 and 1981 winning Class C Sectionals both years. His wrestling teams went 241-117-2 in his career at Avoca, his wrestlers won 33 Individual Sectional championships. He was Inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2007. Peterson passed away in 2019 after a long battle with ALS.
