Hornell Boy’s basketball season closed out by Mynderse in quarterfinals

The #2 seed Hornell Red Raiders fell to #7 Mynderse Academy Blue Devils Saturday afternoon in the Class B1 Quarterfinals.

Four starters scored double figures for the Blue Devils and combined for 10 3-pointers to lift them over the Red Raiders.  Nick Monsell led his team with 19 points and 5 3s, followed by Braeden Cimineri (16 points), Elijah Doell (14 points), and Joe Nigro (12 points).

The Blue Devils led by four at halftime but pulled away in the 3rd quarter to a 49-39 lead going into the final 8 minutes of play.  The Red Raiders were able to score 19 points in the 4th quarter, but they couldn’t stop the Blue Devils’ offense.

Hornell was led by senior, Demayne Dixon who led all scorers with 26 points.  Dixon also had 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the Red Raiders.  Tyrone Buchanan added 11 points and had 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.  Ben Woolever added 9 points and 3 rebounds, and Marco Picco had 8 points and 8 rebounds.

Mynderse Academy will take on the winner of #3 Wayland-Cohocton and #6 Wellsville in the Semifinals on March 3rd.
