Behind the scenes heroes: LaCourse, Wieszczyk honored with Lay Award of St. Joseph

Two local residents were honored in Buffalo Saturday morning with the “Lay Award of Saint Joseph” at the Saint Joseph’s Cathedral.

Patricia LaCourse and Martin Wieszczyk were among those honored from a select group of Western New York residents.

Martin Wieszczyk is honored by Most Reverend Michael W. Fisher, the Bishop of Buffalo.

The Lay Award is a workers award for helping around the parish.

Martin Wieszczyk, 81, of Andover, attends church at Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville and surrounding parishes.

Martin helps on the altar, doing pamphlets, and everything around the church. Martin is at church almost everyday. He follows in his mother’s footsteps. Martin is very deserving of this award as he is always helping others and helping the churches and its parishioners.

LaCourse is very active in the churches of Southeast Allegany County.

The Principal Celebrant was Most Reverend Michael W. Fisher, Bishop of Buffalo.

The Master of Ceremonies was Rev. Sean Paul Fleming. The reader was Kathleen Christie and Dr. Brad Wingert was the organist and cantor.
